       i Consulting - ACASI

Intersilo specializes in bringing quick and thorough solutions to complex data management issues in the academic community. Examples are on- and offline data collection for studies and clinical trials via measures and other forms; online self-design and self-download of polls, surveys and other multiple choice applications; All types of instantaneous on- and offline charting and graphing; design and integration of Access and SQLServer databases; complex mathematical modeling of physical or theoretical constructs; on- and offline ACASI including development of foreign language databases, and more.
ACASI helps a subject in a study or clinical trial to self-administer a survey, questionnaire or measure by means of a PC. The PC vocalizes the questions and answers on the PC screen, especially helpful when the degree of literacy is in question.

Traditionally, ACASI works on a prepared, local PC.  The disadvantage lies in 1- no central database 2- if measures, questions or batteries are changed, all PC's in the field must be upgraded as well  3- because of  the lack of a central database no immediate feedback is possible.

Intersilo has developed other, webcentric methods which we have named ACASI-1 ,ACASI-2 and ACASI-3.

ACASI-1: Questionnaires are presented by a central website through a standard Internet Explorer browser, and the answers are written to a central database with instantaneous answers/downloads.
The PC reads the questions from the screen and converts the text into speech by means of synthesis. This yields great flexibility since any Windows PC may be used without preparation except for one browser setting for which instructions are given on the webpage. (XP, NT2000 or better). Any text can be sent at any time. The downside is that the language intonation and inflection are not quite as good as a human voice.
ACASI-2: Questionnaires are presented by a central website through a standard Internet Explorer browser, and the answers are written to a central database with instantaneous answers/downloads.
The PC reads the questions from the screen and converts the text into speech by means of prerecorded soundfiles. The downside is that the soundfiles must be prerecorded at the website, and that only prerecorded text can be used.
ACASI-3: This is a combination of ACASI-1 and ACASI-2. Instructions, memos, answers etc. can be sent on the fly and will be heard on the PC by means of synthesis. For those cases where intonation and inflection are of importance, ACASI-2 is used.
